CAGE CULTURE AT LOW STOCKING DENSITIES OF LITOPENAEUS VANNAMEI IN A FRESHWATER EUTROPHIC LAKE WITHOUT ARTIFICIAL FEEDING

摘要

Recent developments in the culture of the Pacific white shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei in ponds with very low salinity waters have opened up the possibility of the culture of the species in natural inland water bodies. The potential for the cage cultureof the species in a shallow eutrophic lake was explored recently with promising results. The culture of this species in this type of farming system is to enable small-holder fish farmers living in lakeshore communities access to a high value commodity with relatively short culture period as an alternative culture species.
