The threat at which seahorses {Hippocampus spp.) are exposed entail the need for species consevation. The genus Hippocampus is entirely listed in Appendix II of CITES and seahorse aquaculture has been proposed to solve the demand of trade and researchwhile ensuring natural stocks by reinforcement of the conservation efforts (Koldewey and Martin-Smith 2010). (Olivotto et al. 2011) pointed out the need of an adequate feeding scheme for a successful early rearing of seahorse fry as it is well known that survivals and growth rates during the first days of life is one of the main bottlenecks in the rearing procedure. Surprisingly little is known on the feeding behavior and capture capabilities of seahorse juveniles. Commonly, juveniles are initially fedad libitum on rotifers or Artemia nauplii (depending on the species) to reduce the risk of starvation and detrimental effects on survival or growth rates.
