Data from selective breeding programs may be influenced by different selection forces, e.g. voluntarily culling prior to recording of data. This may result in biased breeding values and estimated genetic gains, and misleading inferences. In fish breeding programs fullsib families are often reared in separate units until a body size suitable for physical tagging. However, in the different families variable proportions of animals may be too small to be tagged (and are thus culled).
