In the European seabass and the gilthead seabream, the implementation of selective breeding programs is hindered by the missing control of artificial fertilisation. The difficulty stands in synchronising a large number of females to get a sufficient quantity of good quality eggs and allow suitable mating designs for genetic improvement. In REPROSEL we follow a multidisciplinary approach to propose selective breeding scheme based on mass spawning:
