Reactive halogen species play an important role in tropospheric chemistry. In particular, iodine oxide (IO) is involved in catalytic ozone destruction in the troposphere, changes in the OH/HO_2 and NO/NO_2 ratios, enhancement of the ozone-depleting bromine cycle, Hg~0 oxidation and new particle formation [1]. Here, retrieval algorithm and Slant Column Density (SCD) measurements of IO from the GOME-2 instrument will be presented. The results focus on the Antarctic region. The values shown are preliminary and therefore future steps will also be discussed.
