Corrosion Detection Techniques for Buried Steel Components

This paper describes the state-of-the-art of two different non-destructive evaluation (NDE) technologies currently being used to assess the extent of corrosion in buried portions of steel structure components, namely: steel poles, anchor rods and stub angles. Strengths and limitations of both the Cylindrically Guided Wave Technique (CGWT) and the Magnetostrictive Sensor Technique (MsS) are explored and results of actual field investigations using these techniques are discussed.
