In the initial period, the human adopted the DC transmission as the transmission method. But due to the limited technical level at that time and rapid development on the technology of AC transmission and transformation, especially its advantage, which can't be replaced by DC transmission, of convenience, flexibility and reliability on the aspect of power generation, power transformation and power application. AC transmission and transformation replaced the application of DC transmission. In the past one more century, the transmitting capacity and voltage level on AC transmission were increased continuously, the technology level achieved a unprecedented development through summarizing the experience from the widespread application and practice. At the meanwhile, the technology on the DC transmission were also studied and developed continuously. With the rapid strides of the science and technology, especially the high speed of development at power electron technology, the DC transmission technology was improved at the application and practice of project, its reliability is increased and application is widened gradually.
