Towards Full Autonomous Development of a Fixed-Wing Unmanned Air Vehicle

This paper describes University's accomplishments in developing, designing and testing a radio controlled airplane which is modified to be fully autonomous for the entry into the various national and international aerial robotics Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Competition. To accomplish this, an airframe has been built which is capable of autonomous flight, navigation of a specific course by means of GPS coordinates and collection and transmission of real time data and imagery to the ground were the information can be processed. A major part of the work was to install and evaluate the Micro Pilot MP2028{sup}g autopilot. This report contains a description of the MITUAV, results from ground and flight tests, a complete pre-flight Checklist, flight codes that enables the MP2028{sup}g to trigger payloads and an evaluation of the Autopilot. The end result has been a plethora of off the shelf products which have been integrated together to create a workable autonomous system that is designed to complete a mission.
