The Effect of Infrastructure Sharing in Estimating Manufacturing Costs of Future Space Transportation Systems

Infrastructure sharing is concerned with making use of the same production facility, critical skills and tooling to produce similar elements of different systems. For example, the Michoud Assembly Facility (MAF), currently used for the assembly of external tanks (ET) may also be used for assembling payload carriers or several stages of the same launch vehicle. This paper is based on a study made to assess the effect of infrastructure sharing in estimating the manufacturing costs of a new system.
