Investigations on the imsaturated stress-strain behaviour and on the SWCC of Hostun Sand in a double-walled triaxial cell

This paper presents first results of an extensively testing on Hostun Sand. The main focus is the fabrication of reproducible soil specimens with different densities and different initial saturations. For this reason a testing setup was created. Triaxial compression tests, tests to determine the SWCC, and unconfined compression tests were carried out. Tests on specimens at constant water content display the dependency of the initial water content on the stiffness and the unconfined compression strength of Hostun Sand. Triaxial compression tests with constant suction show a measurable influence on the shear strength.
