Single mode, tunable and narrow linewidth Distributed FeedBack (DFB) fibre lasers are attractive for diverse applications: dense wavelength division multiplexing or coherent telecommunications, fibre sensors, spectroscopy, etc. Such lasers provide fibre compatibility, relatively simple fabrication, selection and accuracy of the lasing wavelength. Optical Low-Coherence Reflectometry (OLCR) allows the detection, localisation, and quantification of scattering discontinuities and manufacturing irregularities in photonic devices. In this paper, the complex reflectivity of a DFB laser is spatially measured using this technique in dependence with applied mechanical stress.
