ELECTROACUPUNCTURE IS AN EFFECTIVE PAIN RELIEF FOR CATSUNDERGOING CASTRATION

Electroacupuncture was first used in China during the 1930s, became popular in the 1970's and is now widely used to treat pain, physical ailments and to induce analgesia in surgical procedures (Altman S, 2001). Acupuncture analgesia following electrostimulation has been widely studied and can be attributed to multiple neurophysiologic and ant inflammatory effects (Cantwell SL, 2010; Zhi-Qi Zhao, 2008 and Kim SK and others, 2010). Electroacupuncture has proved some evidence in dogs to produce the level of analgesia necessary to perform neutering procedures without the use of any other medication rather than propofol and isoflurane (Gropetti D and others, 2011).
