The natural variations in ~(13)C enrichment (TE) between barley and corn was used to trace C in milk and milk components during changes between barley-based and corn-based diets. The difference between the IE of milk protein, lactose and fat suggestssubstantial difference in the C pools used to support their respective synthesis, fat being the closest to the food and protein using the largest proportion from body pool turnover.
