A Study on the Synthesis and Accumulation of Phycoerythrin in Porphyridium Purpureum

Phycoerythrin (PE) is rich in Porphyridium purpureum (P. purpureum), but it varied greatly with the culture conditions and time. Therefore, exploring the rules of PE synthesis and accumulation and capturing the maximum content can effectively reduce the culture time, so adapt to large-scale production. PE as a new type of natural fluorescent pigment protein, is widely used in food, cosmetics and medicine industries due to its excellent fluorescence intensity, antioxidant activity, free radical scavenging, high chromaticity and other conditions. Therefore, this paper reported the synthesis and accumulation of PE with culture time under different nitrate concentrations. PE solution was effectively extracted by freeze-thaw method, and the content was determined by UV-2600 with a high sensitive detector. Meanwhile, biomass and total protein content of the same period were monitored. The results showed that the content of PE decreased significantly after increasing to a certain extent, the content of PE in cells was achieved 204.5 mg/L (~2.81% d.w.) on the 10th day. This result provides important reference value for the research and actual production of PE.
