Earth Observation Payloads and Data Applications of Tiangong-2 Space Laboratory

As China's first Space Laboratory, Tiangong-2 was designed to carry on a number of space scientific experiments and application tests. For the Earth observation, Tiangong-2 is equipped with Wide-band Imaging Spectrometer (WIS), Interferometric Imaging Radar Altimeter (InIRA) and Multi-band Ultraviolet Edge Imaging Spectrometer (MUEIS). Up to now, these earth observation payloads have acquired a large amount of data, which has been released and applied in many fields. In this paper, the working mechanism, technical characters and advantages of these payloads are introduced, and the data acquirement, processing and service are summarized. With the data accumulation and application promotion, a series of application results have emerged. Some typical application achievements are presented as well. In the future, the earth observation payloads will continue providing data, and more and more applications are prospected.
