Because of the feature of informative, efficient and humane, Machine vision has become one of the main approaches applied on field machine system in order to simplify the farmers'work and improve field efficiency. Detection of crop rows is a very partoffield machine system and various methods based on machine vision were put forward to detect crop rows in the field fast and effectively. Among the detection, there are 5 different models in common use, methods based on the Hough transformation, methods based on the exploration of horizontal strips, vanishing point-based methods, methods based on stereoscopic vision and methods based on least squares. In this paper, the author analyzed comprehensively the current situation and questions at home and abroad described in this paper, discussed the main technology needed in the application and at last prospected the trends of detection of crop rows in the field based on machine vision in the future in order to inspire more researchers.
