摘要

The Spanish Pass Marsh and Ridge Creation Project involves the restoration of 1,134 acres of marsh and 120 acres of ridge habitat. The project will require between 11.5 M m3 and 23 M m3 of sediment to construct the project. Numerous borrow areas have been located within the Mississippi River and within the Gulf of Mexico. The Mississippi River provides a source of sandy sediment, which is advantageous as containment dikes are not required to facilitate construction. While several borrow areas have been previously delineated within the lower confines of the Mississippi River, additional investigations were performed to locate borrow sources closer to the project and thus save on construction costs. Development of the borrow areas required geophysical investigations and bank stability analyses. Due to extended high water levels within the Mississippi River, geotechnical borings have been delayed at time of writing this paper while morphological modeling is underway.
