This paper aims at studying the relative quantum yield and preferential solvation of biologically active coumarin derivative ethyl 8-methoxy-2-oxo-2H-chromene-3-carboxylate (8EMOHCC) in different solvents and solvent mixture acetonitrile and dioxane (ACN + DXN). It is observed that the quantum yield of the title molecule increases with decrease in the solvent polarity that may be due to bathochromic effect and intermolecular charge transfer. Further, the ground state preferential solvation index (i.e., δ_(s2)) showed negative values in different binary solvent mixtures.
