Meeting the Nutritional Needs of the NEURO Hepatic Patient

Meeting the nutritional needs of companion animals is a multidimensional approach in which veterinary technicians play an integral role. The first step is the assessment process. This includes assessment of the patient, the food, and the feeding method. Step two involves developing the appropriate food recommendation paired with the designated feeding method. This process should be iterative as a critically ill patient should be reassessed every few hours. Technicians play a crucial role in monitoring and reassessing the patient. If changes are found to be needed the feeding plan will need to be adjusted to the needs of the patient. The purpose of this presentation is to evaiuate the nutritional needs and subsequent management of patients with hepatic disease conditions.
