ROAD SURFACE CORRECTIONS FOR USE WITH CRTN

Road traffic noise can have a significant impact on the quality of life for residents living close to major road networks. Adverse effects can include annoyance, sleep disturbance, impaired cognitive functioning and a contribution to certain cardiovascular diseases. A number of techniques have been used over many years to reduce noise from road traffic, one of the most effective, particularly on high-speed roads, is the use of low noise road surfaces. Research on pavement construction and the measurement of its acoustic properties has shown that significant reductions in tyre/road noise can be achieved through the use of certain road surface types.
