Planning permissions or environmental permits for building and operating wind turbines require an environmental assessment of the impacts on assets worth protecting in the area surrounding wind turbines. One part of such an Environmental Statement is the assessment of wind turbine noise on residential properties but also areas with high sensitivity such as hospitals, health resorts or schools. To assess the impact of a development before it has been built, it is essential to predict the expected sound pressure levels at the receiver, the 'immission point' (IP). The International Standard ISO 9613 Part 2 [2] is widely used to calculate the attenuation of sound, detailing how to determine the individual attenuation terms.
