The Zone Method has been developed by Hertz as a manual calculation scheme for the determination of the fire resistance of concrete members. But the application for concrete columns is limited to pin ended columns, because the ultimate load is calculated according to Rankine. Therefore Achenbach and Morgenthal proposed an extension also suitable for the calculation of cantilevered columns. The proposed method is called Extended Zone Method (EZM) and mainly suitable for the implementation in commercial design software. In this paper it is demonstrated how to introduce simplifications to allow a manual calculation which can be easily translated into a spread sheet.
