The load distribution and deflection of offshore piles in Incheon grand bridge are investigated by experimental tests and a lateral load-transfer approach. The emphasis is on an improved wedge failure model developed by considering three-dimensional combination forces and a new hyperbolic p-y criterion. Through comparisons with field case studies, it is found that the method proposed in the present study is more appropriate and realistic for representing the pile-soil interaction for laterally loaded piles in clay than the existing p-y method.
