The article is devoted to the drilling energy consumption and new design of rotary bits its life time estimation. The feature of the bits is the use of combined cutting inserts based on cubic boron nitride. Tests of the experimental design of mining tools were carried out on a specially designed drilling bench, as well as by Fletcher and Wombat standard drilling rigs.
