In this study, platinum-praseodymium oxide nanoparticles have been deposited onto a carbon support material. The praseodymium oxide nanoparticles were synthesized by calcination of deposited Pr(OH)_3 and Pt nanoparticles were synthesized by reduction of H_2PtCl_6 with hydrogen. The physical properties were characterized using X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. The materials were electrochemically characterized using cyclic voltammetry and chronoamperometry. The materials exhibited high activity towards methanol electrooxidation, as well as relatively low overpotential.
