This paper aims to consolidate methods of measuring non-sinusoidal active energy systems, as well as to present the results of different tests carried out in several electricity meters available on the national market. The tests considered different voltage and current waveforms, for different harmonic distortion magnitudes. The results showed that there is currently a lack of consistency in the measurement of active energy for billing purposes. In this sense, measurement deviations greater than 50% were identified for certain voltage and current waveforms. All tested meters are available on the national market and are commonly used by electrical utility distributors for the billing process of low voltage consumers.
