The development of new forms of power generation and consumption based on power electronics has been aggravating the harmonic distortion effects on electric systems. Thus, studies that consider the influence of harmonic distortions in electric systems have become essential. Therefore, this paper studies the skin effect modeling in electric cables. Computational simulations were developed using the finite element method for calculating the magnetic field in order to analyze the skin effect as a function of the cable geometry. Case studies were performed considering a standard circular conductor, as well as CAL and CAA cables. The results obtained corroborate with the possibility of determining the current density distribution and the accurate identification of losses localization as a function of the cable geometry. The geometric parameters optimization for conductive cables design can also be carried out using similar methodology.
