Imidazoline Derivatives Based on Silane Functional Group as Corrosion Inhibitor on Mild Steel

The demand of eco-friendly and effective corrosion inhibitor has been devoted recently to protect the corrosion in metal protective industrial. So, to fulfill that objective, novel silane functional group Imidazoline compound (DAMO Imidazoline), has been successfully synthesized from methyl oleate and N-(2-Aminoethyl)-3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane (DAMO). It will be used in alkyd paint formulations for increasing corrosion inhibition. The success of this compound synthesis was done using Fourier Transform-Infrared (FT-IR). The result of DAMO Imidazoline synthesized showed several peaks with a wavelength of 2921.25 cm~(-1) and 2851.78 cm~(-1) for the asymmetric and symmetric stretch vibration of methylene, 1647.81 cm~(-1) for amide C=O strength bond, 1462.67 cm~(-1) for N-H bonds stretch of imidazoline ring, for asymmetric stretching of Si-O-Si vibration in 1111.46-1250.32 cm~(-1) and 583.35-720.84 cm~(-1) of Si-O-C bond. DAMO Imidazoline was evaluated by using Tafel method as corrosion inhibitor on low carbon steel in 5 % NaCl concentration, in various concentration 0.08 to 0.44 wt.%. The result showed that the inhibitor had an excellent inhibition effectiveness at concentration 0.28 wt.%.
