This paper exhibits a successful strategy to ideally reconfigure a power distribution system. To locate the ideal blend of switches which outcomes with least power network losses in a distribution radial arrangement. Modified Particle Swarm Optimization (MPSO) technique is anticipated. MPSO is a modified Binary Particle Swarm Optimization (BPSO) with modification of particle velocity in search space. To exhibit the appropriateness of the suggested strategy relative investigation of MPSO with genetic algorithm (GA), ant-colony algorithm (ACA) and selective particle swarm optimizatio(SPSO) to reconfigure a power distribution system, under base case loading conditions, on IEEE 33 bus radial network is proposed. It is examined that MPSO performs better as compare to GA, ACA and SPSO in respective of significance of output, profile of voltage.
