This paper presents a technique of auto ranging for level measurement using capacitance level sensor. The objective of the work is to design an intelligent calibration technique which will be able to adjust the minimum and maximum reading based on the user defined values. Capacitance level sensor produces a change in capacitance for variation in liquid level. Change in capacitance is converted to voltage with the help of a timer and a frequency to voltage converter. Voltage signal is acquired on to the personnel computer for computation. Calibration is achieved with the help of neural network algorithms. Neural network algorithm is trained to map the input range set by the user to the standard signal of 1 to 5V, using the back propagation with artificial bee colony algorithm. The system was tested under practical setup to evaluate the performance. Results obtained shows successful implementation of desired objective.
