In this paper, we prepared epoxidised natural Eucommia ulmoides rubber (EEUR) from Eucommia Oliv. plants by the emulsion method and studied its application in styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR)/silica compounds. We prepared EEUR using natural Eucommia ulmoides rubber extracted from Eucommia plants as raw material, petroleum ether as solvent, and peracetic acid (CH_3COOOH) as the oxidant. Accordingly, we studied the application of EEUR in SBR/silica compounds, and the results showed that EEUR could promote silica dispersion and improve mechanical properties, tensile strength, tear strength, 300% modulus, and abrasion resistance of SBR/silica compounds. Furthermore, SBR/silica compounds with EEUR exhibited lower heat-buildup and lower rolling resistance.
