This paper developed a simplified model for an embankment resting on geocell reinforced granular cushion over soft soil with stone columns. The geocell reinforced granular cushion was idealized as an Euler-Bemoulli beam by taking beam's geometric nonlinearity into account, while the stone columns were idealized as tensionless and elastic-perfectly plastic springs, and the soft soil was idealized by Kelvin-Voight model to represent its consolidation behavior. The Euler-Bernoulli theory was used to analyze the foundation beam with consideration of the interfacial resistances at the top and bottom of the beam. The influences of soil consolidation and column stiffness on the embankment settlement were also discussed.
