Anesthetic morbidity and mortality is closely associated with the recovery period in horses No clear evidence exists to suggest that any one method of assisted recovery is best in horses,Many factors come into play that can affect the quality of a horse's recovery from anesthesia, and only some of these are within the control of the veterinary team,Intensive monitoring during the recovery period is more challenging than during anesthetic maintenance, so physiologic status can deteriorate before intervention is initiated or even possible,Pharmacologic interventions that delay a horse's attempts to stand (e.g -2 agonists, propofol) and hand-assisted recovery of some kind are likely to optimize the quality of recovery.
