Observation of a nickel aluminum bronze corrosion morphology

Nickel aluminum bronze is one of the commonly used materials to make ship propellers, which easily generate corrosion phenomenon under long-term wet and high-salinity working environment. The samples of this experiment are cast nickel aluminum bronze after salt fog corrosion for 75 days and nickel aluminum bronze corrosion sample under actual working condition. It utilized the optical microscope and the scanning electron microscope to observe their corrosion morphology. The results indicated that edge of the cast nickel aluminum bronze sample generated oxide skin and obvious erosion pit, flocculent corrosion products could be observed on its surface. The nickel aluminum bronze propeller sample generated regional corrosion, the corrosion layer thickness was 5.573 μm, and corrosion products on the propeller surface are shaped like islands.
