Modernization of synthesis gas compressor drive steam turbines in fertilizer plants by OEM’s cutting edge technologies

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Compressor Corporation (MCO) is known all over the world as a leading manufacturer of synthesis gas compressor drive steam turbines (hereinafter syn. gas turbine) used in fertilizer plants having capacity up to 3,300 ton/day. Moreover, MCO has continued to provide state of the art designs with high reliable performance by upgrading synthesis gas turbines which have been operated in 30-40 years, based on OEM’s rich experience and technological expertise. This paper introduces rich experience and the results of modernization by the replacement of internal parts for syn. gas turbines which are applied OEM’s cutting edge technologies such as advanced blade profile for high performance and high reliability. To enhance further reliability and operability, syn. gas turbines have been upgraded with our proven technologies such as the hydraulically operated Trip and Throttle Valve (TTV), redundant digital governing system and two out of three trip solenoid blocks. In addition, the customers' preferences for the control system have been completely satisfied in terms of reliability using our deep knowledge and efficient technology. Further, it is described that the demand trend for higher specifications [up to 3,300 ton/day fertilizer plant] for syn. gas compressor and turbine train in the recent for new turbine manufacturing projects as well as for modernization projects. Also, the most advanced compressor systems, which allow customer to maximize the plant operating rate and provide continuous long term operation, have been included.
