NIIK experience in construction of OSBL facilities as EPC project integral part of nitrogen complex in Tatarstan

Scope of works for OSBL seems to be not so effortful and time consuming as the one for ISBL during the project implementation, but Scope of works for OSBL NIIK performed on EPC basis for Urea/Ammonia/Methanol Complex at Ammoni in Tatarstan shows the opposite. Usually mentioning EPC project we mean ISBL only. We imagine highly expensive scope of supply for ISBL performed by world famous contractors and licensors accompanied by low- cost and insignificant OSBL made by a local engineering company. But if you analyze any project schedule you will see that the schedule phases for OSBL are the milestones for ISBL. The design complexity and the number of units and equipment items can be compared to those for ISBL. For example DM water unit or ammonia storage. The product cost and its quality directly depend on the solutions realized for construction of OSBL objects. The product lifecycle starts with energy resources and feedstock and finishes with delivery to the warehouse, storage, packaging and shipment. The plant staff know how significant OSBL is when we speak about delay of the product dispatch, water quality degradation or when product storage conditions are broken and the product is spoilt. We call new facility "a complex". A new production facility can be compared to a space complex being integral, comprehensive and elaborated. Except in a spaceship and a satilite, there are telemetry and communication control systems and many other units integrated in one system. And Russia is famous for both industries: space industry and production. Similar is for production. Production complex is not a number of plants located on one and the same site, it's harmony between ISBL and OSBL objects and an integrated comprehensive entity.
