Authigenicand diagenetic REE bearing minerals (e.g., apatite, crandallite, monazite, xenotime) are present in matrix phyllosilicates in roof rock, coal refuse samples, and underclay. 1. REE trends and Srare indicative of diagenesis and formation of Ca-P and carbonate mineral zones. The presence of crystalline monazite and xenotimeis a significant discovery showing that combustion has a limited impact on these phosphates. 1. Isolated in the ash matrix 2. Encapsulated 3. Fused by secondary phases in CUB samples. FIB-SEM analysis yields ability to analyze and quantify the volume of REE mineral grains in a complex matrix.
