In this paper we consider the requirements on the die technology for a fast, stable and cost optimized hot stamping process. We presented an innovative technology to achieve high homogeneous contact pressure. Moreover, we use additive manufacturing for cooling channels, which allows us to have optimized and faster cooling which resulted in more efficient production. A new concept on die design to reduce the weight and increase the mechanical technological properties was put forward. Finally we show our concept to find the right material for the right hot stamping die based on wear resistance. No matter which method is used, the process to produce parts with tailored properties should be stable and reproducible. It is important that the overall process time stays almost the same in comparison with production of normal parts.
