Emerging Surgical and Hybrid Interventions for Canine Structural Heart Disease

Congenital and acquired structural heart disease remains a significant cause of progressive heart failure and premature death in dogs. Several important structural heart conditions do not have established or proven treatment options in the dog. Amongthese are tricuspid valve dysplasia, aortic insufficiency, subvalvular aortic stenosis, and degenerative mitral regurgitation. Emerging surgical or hybrid interventional options for these and other conditions could become increasingly available for dogsbut will likely require development of canine-specific techniques and devices. These new interventions will require development of canine-specific intra- and post-procedural antithrombotic management protocols.
