Recognition and treatment of pain are central to diagnosis and management of numerous conditions in cats and dogs. Not only does appropriate management of pain improve patient outcomes, but it also enhances quality of life for the pet and his/her owner. The field of pain management is always evolving, and we in the veterinary profession must continue to adjust our protocols to maintain a high standard of care for our patients.
