This paper presents an adaptive pitch control designed for a variable speed wind turbine (VSWT). Due to nonlinear and uncertain dynamics of VSWT, the conventional controllers show unsatisfactory performance under irregularity of wind speed. The pitch control design problem in the VSWT system is very challenging if the dynamics of the system are unknown. The unknown dynamics of the VSWT has been approximated with the help of Chebyshev neural network (CNN) for the proposed control design. The weight adaptation law for the tuning of CNN is derived using Lyapunov theory. Simulation results demonstrate satisfactory performance of the proposed adaptive pitch control design scheme.
