27.1 Introduction: The chapter by Parnas and Urfer-Parnas continues the longstanding debate on the definition of pivotal psychiatric terms like symptom, diagnosis, illness, disease, therapy. Ontologically confident authors, who deliberately reach beyond the scope of mere definitions, might speak of the "nature" or "essence" of psychiatric phenomena.
