Underwater tunnels refer to tunnels built in stratum or riverbed/seabed of rivers, lakes, bays, channels and other water area. The three main types are rill blast tunnel, shield or TBM tunnel and immersed tube tunnel, they are located in the soil-rock mass, independent with water body. And they are applied in many domestic and oversea projects, with continuous improvement. The submerged floating tunnel referred in this collected papers is also called Water Tunnel or Archimedes Bridge, it is neither buried in the riverbed/seabed nor lain on the riverbed surface, but floating in enclosed construction in the water body with supporting system to keep balance. Compared with conventional bridges and tunnels, submerged floating tunnel has its own advantages in environmental protection, cost control, tourism, etc. However, limited by insufficient research and development, some key technologies including the tunnel body fluctuation with the water current, vortex-induced vibration of anchor rope, emergency prevention and control of disaster are not ripe yet; the submerged floating tunnel is still in study and verification stage.
