An influence of sludge compost application on heavy metals concentration in willow biomass

The aim of the study was to determine the contents of heavy metals in biomass of willow fertilized with compost from municipal sewage sludge. Following objects were drawn on the big plots: (a) without fertilization, (b) fertilized with compost (10 t dm·ha~(-1)), (c) fertilized with compost and mineral nitrogen (90 kg N·ha~(-1)) and (d) fertilized with compost and mineral nitrogen (180 kg N·ha~(-1)). Within big plots, nine clones of willow were drawn. The highest contents of heavy metals in willow shoots were determined on object (a) for cadmium and manganese and (b) for copper, cobalt and zinc. The lowest were noted on objects (a) for cobalt, (b) for manganese, (c) for cadmium and (d) for copper and zinc. The high-est accumulation of metals was noted for the following clones: 1054 and 1052 (cadmium), 1033 (copper), 1018 (lead), 1054 (zinc), 1052 (manganese), and the lowest respectively: 1013, 1054, 1052, 1013 and 1018.
