Traditionally, the earthmoving process in construction contracts does not have online measurement systems with a focus on the identification of waste and improvement of productivity. Usually, the travel control is done manually (card checker); the hours used are recorded by the same operator; if you have a GPS device, it is limited to controlling the velocity; and if the company hires a fleet control system, it is limited to controlling fuel consumption, preventive maintenance, and others. Clearly, no sufficient information to improve productivity was available; therefore, a new project to cover outstanding matters was conducted. This paper presents the work that was carried out in the project mentioned above. In this project, the technical bases of the main contract have included requirements for the control of earthmoving equipment that ensures data collection by GPS and CAN Bus Monitor of the truck, integrating all the information in a single, web-based platform that delivers the KPIs (or Key Process Indicators). These requirements enable reliable recognition of the use and performance of the equipment with a sufficient level of detail to allow determination of the causes of variations in the performance of the sub processes (loading, transport and unloading). The implementation of this measurement system has revealed shortcomings that were previously invisible to the client and, to a lesser degree, to the contractor, as well as allowing us to jointly manage the project and improve productivity. Therefore, it has allowed to quickly adopt the “Lean Full Potential” methodology that manages focusing on improvement of value-adding process, achieving significant productivity gain.
