Comparative Study of Rain Attenuation Effects for the Design of 5G Millimeter Wave Communication between Tropical and Temperate Region

Millimeter wave spectrum is a potentially viable solution to the future 5G cellular services and future satellite communication system. For different temperate locations, rain attenuation along terrestrial path does not cause significant contribution to the overall path loss at millimeter-wave band. But in various tropical locations, terrestrial rain attenuation effect cannot be ignored even for a very small cell size of 200m. At the mm-wave band, rain attenuation along the earth space path is severe not only for tropical region but also for the temperate region. Rain attenuation prediction from rain rate measurement is made along terrestrial path and earth space path at 30 GHz for both temperate and tropical region. Comparisons of rain rate, rain attenuation along terrestrial and earth space path are made between temperate and tropical region.
