Onshore access to offshore field information is critical for making safe and economical operational decisions. Disorganized collation of information can be a significant impediment to full situational understanding and can be time consuming for decision makers. Sifting through disparate sources of public Meteorological and Oceanographic (MetOcean) data; maintaining email correspondence with various offshore project members; reviewing Daily Progress Reports with stale vessel information; awaiting screen shots of ROV footage to be transmitted; all these important activities cause delays to having an updated, comprehensive awareness of the project status, asset position, or environmental conditions. The DOF Subsea Ocean Observation Systems Group has developed SeaState: a web-based, geospatial data portal which combines offshore environmental, asset, and operational project data sources and presents them in a user-friendly web application. SeaState enables access to real-time Glider AUV oceanographic data, useful in tracking the Gulf of Mexico Loop Current as well as 1,000m CTD and fluorometric profiles. It aggregates public and private environmental data including weather radar, nautical charts, and bathymetric data. This presentation will highlight results from a Glider AUV targeted deployment in the Gulf of Mexico Loop Current. The Loop Current position and migration can critically affect offshore operations, preventing ROV deployments, infrastructure installations, and, if currents are swift enough, a vessel's Dynamic Positioning station keeping. The overlaid visualizations of the modeled Loop Current extents, the operational area, and the tracked asset positions, combined with proximal Glider AUV temperature profiles and surface current measurements, enable users to assess risks to their operation. Map layers allow users to measure the distance from the Loop Current to the project. The Glider AUV temperature profiles and current measurements verify the modeled Loop Current properties and provide information about the vertical extents. The web-map portal functionalities increase the ease for these operational assessments. For operations, SeaState also connects Client's offshore assets with shore personnel. Vessels and other assets can be near-real time tracked via economical position units plotted in SeaState and with asset movement updates available to mobile phones and emails. Using SeaState's "eTask" Project task completion can be communicated from offshore to the entire onshore team via email and mobile phones with a single button click. Live ROV video footage is streamed from the vessel through SeaState, using minimal bandwidth. Users also have search function access to Gulf of Mexico field information including pipelines, lease blocks, field names, and protraction data. SeaState provides an operational picture of the project and ocean.
