For the transmission between a base station (BS) and mobile station (MS) in WiMAX multi-hop relay, a relay station (RS) is required to extend the signal for its superordinate or subordinate. Thus, the deployment of RS will not only reduce the cost of the system but also addresses some limitation of spectrum and low SINR caused by significant signal attenuation at the cell edge. Furthermore, it overs the coverage hole in previous standard. However, this is at the cost of longer delay and performance degrade, by increasing the number MS connected to the system. In this paper, we have investigated the performance of the polling-based transmission in a multi-hop relay WiMAX (MMR WiMAX) for transparent and non-transparent relay mode respectively via simulation. We derived and analyzed the average polling delay using tandem queue technique for both relay modes and the results show that the average polling delay decreases when the number of poll increases for both relay modes. Moreover, the delay for non-transparent relay mode is higher due to the signals overhead.
