This paper proposes a hybrid method to determine the location and shape of a meandering radiating slot on the SIW. This method is able to design Leaky Wave Antenna (LWA) for a desired radiation beam at a certain frequency. The SIW parameters are first determined based on the beam direction off the broadside of the antenna and frequency, so the slot can be designed. Six-order polynomial, and Gaussian functions using curve fitting technique in MATLAB are applied to approximate the slot coordination on the broad wall of SIW. A leaky wave antenna with the proposed approach was designed to establish a 62° beam direction off the broadside of the antenna at 15.9 GHz central frequency. The simulation results show return loss below -10 dB at the frequency range from 15.7 GHz to 16.1GHz and 400 MHz bandwidth.
