The diagnosis and treatment of myofascial disease has become popular in human medicine with special attention to its existence by dedicated pain specialists, physical and massage therapists, and chiropractors. Although commonly discussed in the humanrealm, myofascial disease is rarely the focus of mainstream medicine by veterinarians and overlooking its existence negatively impacts patient care. Veterinary acupuncturists, on the other hand, pay special attention to myofascial dysfunction, but oftendo so inadvertently! An improved understanding of the pathophysiology of the point itself will allow for practitioners to not only effectively treat the point, but also look to the underlying cause and focus on preventative strategies.
